Geographic Information Systems

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer-based tool for mapping and analyzing features in the environment. A GIS stores information on anything that can be mapped:  roads, cities, streams, wetlands, and watershed boundaries. It combines common database management techniques with statistical and geographic analysis. GIS is a powerful tool because it can integrate diverse information, model complex problems, and aid in decision-making processes.
